Ignace Schops


Ignace Schops, President of EUROPARC Federation since 2014, has been working in the environmental world for over 20 years. Trained as a landscape expert and herpetologist, Ignace was formerly regional director of Natuurpunt, the largest nature conservation organisation in Belgium and later, leading the NGO RLKM, he established the (Re)connection Model supporting the creation of the first and only national park in Belgium – the Hoge Kempen National Park, the RiverPark Maas-valley and the BorderPark Kempen~Broek. In recognition of his work for nature conservation in Belgium, Ignace was awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2008 and he is currently member of the Club of Rome and an ASHOKA fellow.
